Political Impact
Comic books united Americans during the Great Depression. President Roosevelt said, "When the spirit of the people is lower than at any other time during the Depression, it is a splendid thing that for just 15 cents, an American can go to the movies and forget his troubles." Comic books also. Also, they united America during World War II. There was lots of violence in comics during the war, with some analogies between Nazi's and superheros. The government asked comic book makers to try to involve war efforts in comics. They could help by presenting the war in a more appealing light because America was destined to win. Then, after World War II, American comics were banned. The U.S. Department decided to print their own comics instead. Accompanying pop culture, comic books are important history that shows how young people and adults are similar with cultural and political issues. Also, people are now creating comic books with Obama in it. Readers aren't sure whether comic books should have political topics, or if it should just stick to creative stories including superheroes. Readers also aren't sure whether these comic books with United States presidents included in them are meant to be educational or entertainment. Another impact concerns the Comic Book Code, that was made by the government, made to limit what comic books are allowed to say.
