Thesis Statement
The comic book was a turning point in history because it was the first time such a violent media was exposed to young children, it was a cheap form of entertainment, and it influenced more children to read.
Historical Context
Comic books were made in the time of The Great Depression, so lots of families were poor. However, comic books were made cheap, so many families could afford them. Religion was a big part of society at that time, and it was considered that all books should be similar to the Bible in teaching good morals. But comic books came around and were very violent which was uncommon at this time in history. Because of all of the violence, it was believed to make parents of readers worried that the comic books would affect the way children would act. Some parents and worried adults held bonfires to get rid of comic books. They ended up creating a Comic Book Code in order to mandate what comic books can or cannot say.
