Ages of Comic Books
There are 5 different ages of comic books. Fans use these ages to categorize the different eras of comic books based on times in history that share concerns, storytellings, techniques, marketing strategies, styles of writing and art, and approach genre conventions. The names are the Golden, Silver, Bronze, Iron, and the Modern Age. However, there are different names that different people may use.
- The Golden Age in comic books is the era where comics became widespread and popular when many of the icons made their debut, from the 1930's-1950's.
- The Silver Age of comic books is the time when superheros were produced again, and it began in the 1950's and ended around 1970.
- The Bronze Age of comic books is underrepresented in the area of trade paperback and hardcover reprint collections, and it ended when collections started happening.
- The Iron Age carries probably some of the greatest public awareness of superheroes due to the fresh starts, many animated series, and successful blockbusters all getting the word out about this medium, fostering a new generation of fans.
- The Modern Age of comic books began in 1986 and ended in the 2000's, and it is the "modern" comic books today.
